The Goldback is a revolutionary product that solves the problem of physical gold being used as a currency for small transactions. Being hyper fractional (lowest denomination is 1/2000th of a troy ounce of gold), gold can finally be used for everyday small priced items.
The Goldback was first introduced in 2019, and has had phenomenal success since. Currently having launched it's 6th state in the Goldback Series, Florida, there is no plans on slowing down. People learning the benefits of sound honest money being used as voluntary negotiable instruments will continue this momentum. This means more beautiful designs are on the horizon!
Goldbacks are produced in a variety of denominations sizes, from the 1/2 note up to the 100 note. And since Goldbacks are interchangeable (fungible), there is no additional premium to the holder. Carrying one 25 Goldbacks note or five 5 Goldbacks notes gives the carrier the same purchasing power.
Exchange Rate / Value
The Goldback's exchange rate is updated daily on business days by Goldback at 8:00 A.M. EST. This exchange rate is published on Goldback's website to help merchants set their Goldback prices for the goods and services. The Goldback trades at around 100% above the spot price of gold content within. For instance, the 1 Goldback at the time of writing has an actual gold content value of $2.87, yet it's exchange rate is approximately $5.74. Merchants that accept the Goldback would therefore trade product or service value of $5.74 when accepting a Goldback in a transaction. This exchange rate changes as the spot price of gold changes in the market.
Goldbacks have seen a rise in value from approximately $2.76 (March 2020) to over $5.90 (March 2025) per Goldback. This rise is attributed to the rise in the Gold spot price--also seen as the loss of purchasing power of the US Dollar.

Goldback Collectibles
Goldbacks have several items that appeal specifically to collectors. Low mintage or early year releases have added additional value as collectors work to build backdated state sets. There are also graded Goldbacks, graded by either PMG or PCGS, that make great collector items. These can be high graded notes, First Day of Issue Releases, Early Release notes, or the Alpha releases that can make for great sets to work towards acquiring.
